Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a condition which affects close to 4 million people, mostly women, but it does affect men as well. It is a health condition which is often missed or diagnosed after time. Fibromyalgia (also termed chronic pain syndrome) is a condition in which people have widespread pain all over the body and suffer with fatigue, digestive problems, brain fog, sleeping problems, and even depression. Fibromyalgia can be brought on suddenly by a traumatic event (a fall, accident, surgery) or even emotional or chemical stress. It isn't uncommon for a person with fibromyalgia to go years without being properly diagnosed or treated.

In my experience in working with individuals with fibromyalgia, the diagnosis is often determined by a rheumatologist, in dealing with a patient's description of chronic pain and suffering. People with fibromyalgia exhibit moderate to severe pain all over the body, especially the shoulder joints, neck, hips, and back. They cannot sleep for more than 1 or 2 hours at a time, they are chronically fatigued, have sensitivity to light, experience headaches or abdominal discomfort, acid reflux, gas and bloating, constipation or frequent urination, and more often than not "they feel" isolated by society. There is no specific lab test which can determine one has fibromyalgia. Most fibromyalgia sufferers are shuffled from doctor to doctor for each problem and prescribed a different medication for every condition where they may suffer more from the side effects of being on multiple medications and minimal resolve in their health condition.

My approach is different, as a board certified chiropractor, with an emphasis in neurology having completed over 600 hours of post graduate studies and working daily with individuals who suffer with the health condition of fibromyalgia, I first determine the neurological imbalances that may be causing such symptomatology. More often than not it's a problem with a high firing mesencephalon, basically a part of the brainstem that contributes to the proper balance and function of your entire nervous system. Causes to this maybe any type of stress, be it chemical, physical, emotional, or nutritional.

I perform a thorough neurological examination, digital Surface EMG, and posture analysis with each patient. Based on the results from a clinical examination we can determine if your condition of fibromyalgia is due to high mesencephalon output. Most of my patients have had fibromyalgia for years and care often may take time to improve. I may go over with you specific recommendations for your treatment based on your results.
